After zdrei.com won the coveted TYPO3 award "Best Website of the Year" and also "Best E-Commerce Website" 2019, our Swiss project "waldwissen.net" was also awarded with a bronze medal as part of the "Best of Swiss Web Award" 2021.
Together with our client, the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL, we are pleased that this website not only inspires users, but also impresses a professional jury!

The most important award in the Swiss internet industry
The Best of Swiss Web Award was presented for the first time in 2001 and is one of the oldest Internet awards in Europe. It is now the most important award given in Switzerland for websites and campaigns. At the 21st Best of Swiss Award Night on September 6, 2021, the big names in the industry – well known agencies like Jung von Matt for example, or Zalando, Swisscom and the Swiss Federal Railways as clients – gathered again. We are now mentioned in the hall of fame, among the top notch companies of Switzerland.
Competent solutions in the details:
A jury of more than 100 experts assessed 326 submitted projects
Far beyond the aesthetic criteria, the jury of experts also assessed the technical creativity - not only in the programming, but also in the conception and organization of an unusual data migration.
Background: The platform waldwissen.net provides comprehensive, scientifically sound content on the subject of "Forests, people and forestry" and networks experts from science and practice. The problem: Although the content of the site has improved over the past 15 years with an increase to over 3,000 specialist articles, it has remained technically the same as in 2005. The non-responsive website, for example, only provided unsatisfactory results for the growing number of mobile users User experiences.

The development of an automated migration process for half a million records
Since the originally used content management system was out of date and could no longer be updated, the task was to migrate a total of about 500,000 data records, including content, images, user data and links, to a modern TYPO3 application. In the implementation, content was reassigned using specially developed algorithms and content was made easier to find using newly implemented search, filter and sorting functions. Since the site was programmed as a progressive web app from the start, it was no longer necessary to develop a native app.

Since the primarily eye-catching appearance is often seen and rewarded when assessing websites, we are all the more pleased that with the Best of Swiss Web Award 2021, the conceptional, and in terms of performance exceptional implementation of state of art technologies was recognized.
